Welcome to the Monitoring and Evaluation of Water Quality Monitoring Course
This course is part of the Caribbean Water Quality Course Collection(opens in new tab).
This course equips environmental professionals with the tools to design robust, risk-informed water quality monitoring systems while understanding the institutional and financial factors needed to sustain them over the long term. By combining conceptual models, evaluation frameworks, and real-world programme considerations, participants gain the skills to strengthen water quality governance and decision-making processes. This course provides a foundation in the design of the monitoring and evaluation stage of a water quality monitoring programme and considerations of setting a long-term monitoring programme. Participants will explore how monitoring objectives are defined and refined, how indicators are selected, and how evaluation frameworks are applied to assess monitoring program performance. The course also lays out the institutional and financial dimensions in setting up longer-term monitoring efforts.
Note:
This course builds on the concepts presented in the:
- High-Level Course on Marine and Coastal Water Quality Management.
- Course 1: Water Quality Parameters and Monitoring Design
- Course 2: Sampling Design, Production of Information, and Data Management
- Course 3: Communication of Findings
If you have not yet completed that course, please do so before starting this course.
After finishing this module, you should be able to:
- Design monitoring and evaluation (M&E) frameworks for water quality monitoring programme
- Apply risk-based and trigger-based for long-term water quality monitoring approaches
- Detect challenges in planning for long-term water quality monitoring
- Identify cost elements of water quality monitoring
