Learning and Connecting through Visual Communication

Last updated: 28/04/2026

About this course:

Participants are invited to explore drawing, symbols, and visual expression not as artistic skills to be perfected, but as doorways into awareness, storytelling, and shared understanding. This is relevant for all those who want to share their knowledge (including, but not limited to, scientific knowledge) with others. No previous drawing experience is needed – only openness and curiosity. Rather than focusing on technique or aesthetics, this workshop opens space to reflect on how we make meaning and how we share knowledge: How do our cultural references, personal experiences, and ways of seeing shape the images we create? What happens when we let go of “drawing well” and instead attend to how we think, feel, and connect through visuals?

Some of the content on this website has been created with the support of Generative AI tools, particularly for the purposes of transcribing video recordings. All materials have been carefully reviewed, refined, and humanised by our project team to ensure accuracy, tone, and alignment with GRID-Arendal’s values.

Learning objectives:

  • Explore their own relationship to visual thinking, imagination, and learning.
  • Practice ways of visually expressing ideas collaboratively and inclusively.
  • Build confidence in using basic visuals to support communication in scientific and interdisciplinary contexts.

I believe storytelling plays an important role in society, helping us understand the complexity of our world. My expertise lies in visual storytelling by means of art, animation, illustration and graphic design.

At GRID-Arendal, I collaborate with various partners to visually and artfully bring their stories to life. I am also developing the visual identity of GRID-Arendal as an organisation by exploring artistic, innovative and meaningful methods of visual communication. Previously, I have worked as an animator, storyboard artist, and illustrator in the animation, game, comic book, and film industries. My personal projects often involve cross-disciplinary storytelling, blending different art forms to explore new mediums of narratives
